IMG_3551On August 10, Local 1000A hosted it's last community picnic of 2013 at Boyd Conservation Area near Toronto. In addition to games for adults and children, the picnic featured an all-you-can-eat BBQ. Thanks to all the volunteers and participants who made the picnic such a success! 

stewards_conference_slideThe 7th Annual UFCW Canada Local 1000A Stewards' Conference has been scheduled for September 28-29. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel.

Deadline for registration is Friday, August 30.

Canada’s leading union, UFCW Canada, is calling on activists, friends, and supporters to boycottAnheuser-Busch InBev’s imported products. For more than three months, the Labatt’s Brewing Company (a subsidiary of transnational ABInBev) has forced its employees in St. John’s Newfoundland out on strike for basic fairness.

Kevin-BennLocal 1000A’s Executive Board has elected Kevin Benn to fill the vacant Secretary-Treasurer position effective July 31, 2013 in accordance with the UFCW Canada constitution and the local union by-laws. He will serve for the balance of the term ending December 31, 2016.

“Kevin is an outstanding trade unionist who will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into his new role,” said President Pearl Sawyer. “With his unwavering commitment to Local 1000A’s membership, I have every confidence he will make an exceptional Secretary-Treasurer.”

shirely-heiseStaff Representative Shirley Heise retired effective July 1, 2013 after more than 40 years with Local 1000A, including 15 years as a Staff Representative.
