UFCW Canada Local 1000A welcomed 1,100 members, family members and friends to Wild Water Kingdom for its annual Members’ Day.
The event drew members from across Southern Ontario from a variety of workplaces and sectors.
“We had a great time,” said Alicia Wynn, who works at Kretschmar.
Members’ Day was also an opportunity for Wynn and her family to celebrate the birthday of her relative, eight-year-old Jayden. Wynn said it was a good idea for the union to host events like Members' Day and the picnic.
“My kids look forward to it every year.”
Joanne Cleland, a Cashier at Leonetti's No Frills, has made it out to every Members’ Day events at Wild Water Kingdom and Canada’s Wonderland for last six to seven years.
“I just enjoy going there and I have a couple of children who enjoy the rides,” she said. “Since my extended family and friends come along, it is a day where we can spend together outdoors and have fun.”
Sylvia Debruin, who works at Louis Dreyfus Commodities, also brought her daughter and her friend along.
“I think it is good for people from all companies to gather because you know you are not by yourself,” she said. “It shows there are lots of us out there.”
The union provided a BBQ and towel to all participants.
In addition, members, together with their families and friends, helped raise $545 through the Summer Fun raffle for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. Mark Wells, a front-end service clerk at Great Food in Toronto, won the Raffle with passes to various attractions.
Local 1000A also thanks Kretschmar for its generous donation of a truck and driver for the event.
