Local 1000A’s Executive Board has elected Kevin Benn to fill the vacant Secretary-Treasurer position effective July 31, 2013 in accordance with the UFCW Canada constitution and the local union by-laws. He will serve for the balance of the term ending December 31, 2016.
“Kevin is an outstanding trade unionist who will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into his new role,” said President Pearl Sawyer. “With his unwavering commitment to Local 1000A’s membership, I have every confidence he will make an exceptional Secretary-Treasurer.”
Kevin has worked for UFCW for more than 30 years, including nearly 23 years at Local 1000A. He has held progressively more senior positions with the Local including Staff Representative, Director of the Industrial Sector and the Manufacturing, Processing, and Packing Sector and Executive Assistant to the President. As an elected officer, he has been Recorder and, most recently, Executive Vice-President. He is a seasoned negotiator, having led the Local's No Frills negotiations in 2011, and is chair of the Local's Grievance Review Committee.
In accordance with the UFCW Canada Constitution and local union by-laws, the position of Executive Vice-President, that Kevin Benn is vacating, must be filled for the balance of the term, by a vote of the Local Union's Executive Board, no later than 90 days from when the vacancy occurred.
