Local 1000A member Cheryl Mennill had a lot to smile about at London’s Springbank Park on July 14.
Mennill, who works at a Great Food store in the area, was declared the winner of the ‘Local 1000A has Got Talent’ after showcasing her skills in creating balloon animals. She made and gave away several to the children in attendance.
Local 1000A members in the Toronto-area blew away the judges and the crowds with their many talents, which ranged from Taekwondo to singing to dancing.
“It was incredible to see how much talent Local 1000A has,” said Secretary-Treasurer Tony Soares. “I want to thank all our contestants for sharing their amazing talents with us and making the day an unforgettable one.”
Local 1000A was among the million-plus revelers who took to downtown Toronto on August 4, 2012 to celebrate the city’s annual Caribbean Carnival.
Billed as the largest cultural festival of its kind in North America, the carnival is a three-week long extravaganza that features the glittering costumes, sounds and tastes of the Caribbean.
Under clear blue skies, thousands of participants, including Local 1000A staff, members and activists, took to the streets of downtown Ottawa on August 26, 2012 to celebrate the Capital Pride Parade. Decked out in UFCW gold T-shirts, they danced and waved flags as they made their way through the downtown core.
