Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

Increased job security and wage increases were among the contract gains achieved by Local 1006A members at NexCycle Plastics in Brampton.

“Everyone was happy with the one-year contract,” said Harry Balraj, a member of the bargaining committee. "We understood the situation. We got a wage increase during a difficult time with COVID-19."

The term of the contract is February 15, 2020 to February 14, 2021 and covers 60 bargaining unit members.

“I want to commend our negotiating committee for their hard work on behalf of our membership during this pandemic, and their success in achieving a fair union contract,” said President Wayne Hanley. “We also want to recognize the membership for their unity and support throughout this process — when we work together, we can make fairness happen.”

Negotiations were led by Union Representative Joe Blythe with support from Union Representatives Rick Del Fiacco, Gord Jackson, and members Harry Balraj, Sarbjit Mangat and Harcharan Garcha.

Workers at NexCycle work as production/machine operators, and warehouse.

"It felt good to be part to be of the negotiating process,” said Balraj.

Negotiations were conducted with physical distancing guidelines and masks protocols followed.
