Maple Leaf Gardens has come back to life again, as the new home of an one-of-kind Loblaws Great Food store. Amid much fanfare, the store was opened to the public on November 30, 2011 and will employ more than 450 Local 1000A members. Located at 60 Carlton Street, the new store is unique within Loblaw Companies Ltd. That is why this store is subject to additional terms and conditions, while operating under the Great Food banner.
Longtime Local 1000A activist Amanda Atwell has been elected OFL Vice-President, Workers Under 30. Atwell, a steward at a Great Food store in Ottawa, was elected on November 23, 2011 by OFL delegates under 30.
"On behalf of Local 1000A, I am pleased to congratulate Amanda on her achievement,” said Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer, who endorsed Atwell for the position. “Amanda’s tireless dedication to workers as a steward, organizer, and labour activist shows that she will be an excellent representative for 'Workers Under 30' at the OFL.”
Christmas came early to Milton as thousands of parade-goers took to downtown streets to take in holiday floats and attractions at the annual Milton Santa Claus Parade.
Wearing red union vests, Local 1000A members, activists and staff marched in the parade on November 20 and handed out chap sticks and candy canes. Local 1000A also created its own float, with wreaths, a Christmas tree, a giant snowman and lots of red and gold ribbons.

Local 1000A president Pearl Sawyer proudly endorsed Atwell for the position. "Amanda is a excellent choice for representing 'Workers Under 30' at the OFL.
