Local 1000A and UFCW Canada Local 206 merged on May 1, 2016 to form UFCW Canada Local 1006A.
Downtown Toronto was transformed into a sea of rainbow colours as upwards of a million people, including Local 1000A members and staff, gathered on Canada Day to celebrate the 2012 Pride Parade.
Wearing rainbow-coloured leis and gold UFCW t-shirts, participants danced, waved flags, handed out condoms and magnets as they marched along side the UFCW Canada Local 1000A float from Church and Bloor down to Jarvis and Gerrard streets.
Canada’s Wonderland was swept up in a sea of gold as hundreds of Local 1000A members gathered with their family and friends on Saturday June 23, 2012 for Members’ Day.
Members, decked out in their gold UFCW Canada t-shirts, came from across the province for a non-stop day of rides, all-you-can-eat food and attractions.

Once again, the Harper Conservatives have shown their contempt for democracy with their plan to rush through Bill C-38 — a 450 page omnibus Federal Budget Implementation Bill with a sweeping agenda that will cause harm to UFCW Canada members, their families and millions other Canadians.
Bill C-38 would weaken the social safety net, environmental and workplace protections, and make changes to over 70 other laws without proper debate or full review.
Mary-Joe Eaton wiped the tears off her face as she walked through crowds of applauding activists to accept the 2012 Pearl Sawyer Award.
“I will always remember and cherish this moment,” said Mary-Joe, a long-time steward at Kretschmar.
“I want to thank all my sisters and brothers at Local 1000A for this honour. What I do, I do to help others and make a difference, and to be recognized for that leaves me speechless.”
