Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

ATTENTION PART-TIMERS AT LOBLAWS AND RECENTLY CONVERTED LOBLAWS GREAT FOOD STORES

loblaw_injunctionYour union is pleased to announce that we have won a court injunction to stop Loblaws Supermarkets Ltd’s inappropriate application of Letter of Understanding 59 as detailed in your collective agreement.  Letter of Understanding 59 concerns the conversion of a conventional store to a Great Food banner and states if you don’t regularly work a particular time or day at your Loblaws store, you will not be required to make yourself available for work at that time or day in the Great Food banner if it’s for legitimate reasons and not personal preference.

Nothing is more important for your union than protecting and improving life for you and your family. That’s why we fought hard to ensure your economic security when Loblaw Companies Ltd informed us during the 2010 negotiations that it intends to convert all its conventional stores. With your support, we negotiated five options to secure your livelihood as you transition to the Great Food banner.

Loblaws_BannerLoblaw Companies Ltd has announced it will convert 10 Loblaws stores in Ottawa, Kingston and Lindsay to the Great Food banner.

These are the first conversions announced this year since the company unveiled its plan at negotiations last year to convert all Loblaws stores.

five_wsIn 2008, the union filed a policy grievance in response to Loblaw breaching the terms and conditions of the 2006 collective agreement by hiring employees into Back to Best positions. In the last set of negotiations, the union and company reached a resolution.

What will happen to the Back to Best positions?

All 94 Back to Best Positions are being discontinued in accordance with the resolution of the grievance. The company agreed to provide Back to Best employees 30 days notification within two weeks of ratification (October 6, 2010) that their positions will be discontinued.

The company is posting 23 regular full-time positions and 71 Compressed Work Week positions, to which the 94 Back to Best employees are invited to apply.
