IMG_8897Local 1000A kicked off its second annual BBQ picnic at Ottawa’s Vincent Massey Park on August 27, 2011. The event brought together children and adults of all ages and cultures for a jam-packed day of activities, including soccer, an iron-chef cooking contest, a jumping castle, face-painting, bingo and all-you-can-eat BBQ.

IMG_8735Under clear blue skies, members from Locals 1000A, 175 & 633 took to the winding back roads of Southern Ontario on their motorcycles to raise awareness and funds in the fight against leukemia. A joint initiative of Local 1000A and Local 175 & 633, the Ride for a Cure took place on August 20, 2011 and drew 44 riders and passengers from across the province. Thanks to participants from both local unions, more than $15,000 was raised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

IMG_8388Hundreds of Local 1000A members and their families gathered at Boyd Conservation Area on August 6, 2011 for a day of fun and games as part of the Community Action Network (CAN)’s Toronto BBQ Picnic. The event brought together children and adults of all ages and cultures for a jam-packed day of activities, including soccer, an iron-chef cooking contest, a jumping castle, face-painting, balloon toss, potato sack races, bingo and all-you-can-eat BBQ.

IMG_7807Bowling lanes at Mississauga’s Classic Bowl were packed as Local 1000A members gathered to bowl for a cure for sickle cell anemia on Sunday, July 17. Teams, decked out in theme costumes from the Alley Cats to the Mighty Canadians, raised about $1,100 for Faces of Our Children, an organization dedicated to raising awareness, support and funding for the fight against sickle cell disease worldwide.
