UFCW 1006A members at Towneplace Suites Toronto Oakville ratified a new union contract with several gains, including substantial wage increases and paid sick days.
“Everybody was satisfied—they all loved it,” said Levi Whittaker, a member of the negotiating committee. “Everything was perfect.”
The term of the new contract is from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2027 and covers 20 members.
“The negotiating committee did an exceptional job in achieving a fair union contract that meets the needs of our membership at the hotel,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Congratulations to our members on their achievement – member participation and unity were vital to achieving gains at the negotiating table.”
Members of the negotiating committee included member, Levi Whittaker and Union Representatives, Joe Blythe and Diana O’Brien.
Highlights
- Annual wage increases totalling 11% over 3 years
- Five paid sick days for all members
- Improved vacation language: Members with 20 years of service or more will receive 6 weeks vacation pay or 12% of the previous T4 gross earnings (whichever is greater)
- Statutory holidays: Members working full-time will be paid for 8 hours. Members working part-time will be paid for four hours or their ESA entitlement (whichever is greater)
- $5 Premium per day for housekeepers for assigned rooms with pets
