Grocery workers from Organic Garage (Junction) have voted to join the UFCW 1006A family.
“UFCW 1006A has a strong record of helping grocery workers across Ontario achieve fairness at work and improve their rights and livelihoods,” said President Wayne Hanley. “We are proud to congratulate and welcome our newest members from Organic Garage to the union family. The members' determination and unity in winning union representation was truly inspiring. UFCW 1006A is proud to be the best union in Ontario for grocery workers seeking to secure fairness, respect and dignity in the workplace.”
Key issues included working conditions, compensation and scheduling.
The new bargaining unit has 20 workers who work in a wide variety of roles, including cashier, grocery clerk and produce clerk.
“This is an incredible victory for our newest members from Organic Garage,” said Organizing Director Lesley Prince. “They knew what they wanted and worked together to take the steps needed to build a better workplace. With union representation, these grocery workers will gain a voice in the workplace, and an ability to improve their wages, working conditions and rights.”
