On May 17, UFCW 1006A is joining members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies in observing the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia.
"UFCW 1006A is proud to stand in solidarity with our friends and family in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, today and always," said President Wayne Hanley. "Across North America, many 2SLGBTQIA+ members and their families are facing intolerance and hate in our schools, workplaces and communities. We must stop this hate from spreading. To our members in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, I want you to know that you are not alone. Your union is with you, working to build a more equal and just world for all workers. As allies, we must continue to do our part to help eliminate homophobia, transphobia, biphobia and intersexphobia wherever it exists."
Celebrated in more than 130 countries around the world, the day is about raising awareness and working to eliminate homophobia, transphobia and biphobia.
1006A works to create inclusive workplaces and communities, through our 1006OUTreach committee which empowers 2SLGBTQIA+ members, raising awareness through our online and print communications, using gender-inclusive language in our union contracts, undertaking staff training and creating gender-inclusive bathrooms and much more.
