Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

Cannabis workers are increasingly voting ‘Union Yes,’ as workers from Tokyo Smoke (Wellington St., Ottawa) became the latest group to join the union family.

This victory adds to the growing momentum of Cannabis workers, who continue to seek union representation to achieve greater protection and fairness at work and in the industry. Currently, UFCW 1006A is home to cannabis retail workers at Tokyo Smoke in Scarborough, Stoney Creek and Toronto, Sessions in Hamilton and Superette in Ottawa.

“As a team, we felt there was some disparity among wages, as well as health and safety concerns – That’s why we joined the union,” said a worker at the Wellington Street Tokyo Smoke.

“We are thrilled to welcome our newest members from Tokyo Smoke into the UFCW 1006A family,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Cannabis workers know that joining UFCW 1006A is the key to gaining a voice at work and improving their rights and working conditions. We look forward to working with our newest members on the next step of this process, which is to begin negotiations to achieve a fair union contract."

Lesley Prince, Director of Organizing, was proud to welcome the new members.

“This group was strong, united and determined, which helped them achieve unionization,” said Prince.
