Wages increases, fully covered benefits and improved scheduling were among the improvements achieved by UFCW Canada Local 1006A members at Plaza Premium Lounge Ontario in their first union contract.
“The strength and unity of our bargaining committee and our membership were vital in securing a strong first contract at Plaza Premium Lounge,” said President Wayne Hanley. “The workers put their trust in us when they joined our union, and I’m proud to say we have delivered. With the power of the union behind them, the members today have a strong voice in the workplace and a fair first contract which improves their rights and livelihoods.”
Bargaining for our 180 members was led by Regional Director Don Taylor, with support from Union Rep Glacier Effs-Samuel, and members, Lilibeth Rey, and Mercidita Paradela.
The term of the contract runs from December 16, 2019 to October 31, 2022.
At Toronto Pearson International Airport, 1006A members work at multiple lounges in Terminal 1 and 3. They work in a variety of positions, including Supervisors, Sous Chef, Cooks, Servers, Bartenders, Meet and greeters, Lounge Assistants, and Spa Technician.
The workers at Plaza Premium Lounge Ontario achieved union representation in fall 2018 with the help of our Organizing Department.
