Conservatives will be slashing the free tuition program for low-income students, putting post-secondary education further out of the reach of many Ontario families.
Students will also no longer have a six months interest free period after graduation to pay off their student loans.
The interest for loans will also be higher. Forty per cent of Ontario’s full-time post-secondary students were utilizing the free tuition, the CBC reports.
The cuts will have a devastating effect on students barely scrapping by and will not be offset by a relatively small reduction in the fees.
Ford is also attacking student unions, which play a vital role in providing essential services on campuses and advocating for affordable education.
