Local 1006A president Wayne Hanley and Leukemia Coordiator Diana O'Brien present cheque to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society of Canada.

UFCW Canada Local 1006A recently donated $51,006 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

President Wayne Hanley, along with Union Representative Diana O’Brien, presented the cheque to LLSC president Alicia Talarico. In total, UFCW Canada donated 2.5 million this year in the fight against these blood cancers.

“I’m so proud of our members who continue to show tremendous generosity and compassion in the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma,” said President Wayne Hanley. “These blood cancers affect so many Canadians from coast to coast, including many of our members. That is why it is so important for all of us to continue to come together and do what we can to find a cure. Together, we are saving lives and making a difference in the fight against these deadly diseases.”

In the last year, 1006A members have participated in raffles, light the night events, dart tournaments, and a golf tournament to raise money for this important cause.

The donation will go towards supporting life-saving research, raising awareness and helping those who are suffering from these diseases.

“We are grateful for their ongoing and overwhelming support that has led to safer, more personalized, and effective treatments for those affected by blood cancers,” says LLSC President Alicia Talarico.

Since 1985, UFCW Canada members and Local Unions have fundraised over $41.4 million in support of the vital work of the LLSC.
