UFCW Canada Local 1006A members at Canada Catering recently ratified their first union contract, with wage increases and the addition of a new health and welfare benefit plan.
The contract runs from January 1, 2017 until December 31, 2018 and covers 35 members who work in the kitchen/cafeteria at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre in Meaford.
Negotiations were led by Jonathan Lobo, Coordinator-Central Region with support from Director Brian Reid, Kate Rowbotham and Jennifer Crowell.
“I am proud to congratulate our members at Canada Catering for their solidarity and strength in achieving their first contract,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Through their unity, they prevailed in a tough negotiating environment to achieve this contract for their future."
Contract highlights include:
- Wage increases
- Health and welfare benefits through the Commercial Workers Benefit Trust
- Increased benefit for bereavement
- Overtime after 8 hours in a day and 40 hours in a week
- Paid time and half for any work on stat holidays
- Paid breaks/rest periods
- Achievement of a grievance/complaint procedure
- Achievement of Seniority language
