UFCW Canada Local 1006A members, who work for Aramark at Trafalgar Castle School, have ratified a new union contract with several gains.
The contract runs from September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2018.
“Our union negotiators are the best in Ontario, and we are proud to achieve a fair deal with significant gains for our members at Trafalgar Castle School,” said Wayne Hanley, Local 1006A president. “In negotiations, the membership’s unity and support are essential and I commend workers for achieving this victory for their future. Congratulations to our negotiating committee for a job well-done.”
The union negotiating committee consisted of union representatives Carla MacFarlane, Gord Albert, Director (Eastern Region) Roland Lapins, and members Lynn Perry, Zenon Matusiak.
Highlights of the contract include:
- Wage increases to be paid retroactive back to September 1, 2015
- Part-time workers become union members within the bargaining unit
- Paid sick days increased to 6 per year
- Salaried members now being paid hourly. This means they can now claim overtime.
“We made substantial gains in negotiations due to our membership’s participation and our union negotiating committee’s dedication,” said Gord Albert, lead negotiator for the local union.
