UFCW 1006A members at Comfort Hotel Airport North in Toronto have ratified a new union contract.
The contract term is from March 1, 2024 to February 28, 2027 and covers eight members.
“We got most of what we wanted and there is room for improvement,” said Sherine Barracks, a member of the negotiating committee. “It was good that I got to voice my opinions and explain what the other members wanted to see in the contract.”
The negotiating committee included members, Sherine Barracks, Teodora Milevski and Union Representatives Joe Blythe and Amanmeet Singh.
President Wayne Hanley congratulated the committee on their hard work.
“We are proud to raise the standards for unionized hotel workers across Ontario through every union contract we negotiate,” said President Wayne Hanley. “I am pleased to congratulate our members at the hotel on achieving gains in their new contract.”
Highlights
• Wage increases of 10 percent wage over three years
• Increase to the sick days (part-time now get two paid sick days and full-time now get five paid sick days, up from four previously)
• Increase to bereavement leave from three to five days
• New Statutory Holiday: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
