Hotel workers across Ontario continue to experience the union benefit, with UFCW 1006A members from Residence Inn Toronto becoming the latest group to ratify a new union contract.
“I am pleased with this contract for many reasons, including being able to tell my co-workers that they now have a benefit of a lump sum retirement package,” said Randolph Peacock, a member of the negotiating committee. “As some of our co-workers approach the age to retire, many asked us about pensions and other potential benefits when they retire. As a younger hotel, we have never had this kind of benefit to offer the members and this contract reflects the diversity of age within our membership."
The term of the contract is from March 3, 2023 to March 2, 2027 and covers 65 workers.
“The yearly raise is another massive benefit to our members as the economy continues to apply pressure to everyone,” said Peacock. “Our members are fortunate in that they can positively see financial increases every year they work. In this economy, those increases are something tangible that all our members benefit from.”
The negotiating committee includes members, Ann-Marie Duncan, Amelia Gevero, Randolph Peacock and Union Representative Daiana Dumitru.
“In the hotel industry, workers can count on UFCW 1006A to improve their lives at work, whether it’s through negotiating higher compensation or ensuring members' concerns are heard,” said President Wayne Hanley. “I’m proud of our negotiating committee for their outstanding work in securing a fair union contract with several gains for our members at Residence Inn Toronto.”
