UFCW Canada Local 1006A’s Women’s Issues Network (WIN) Region 3 hosted its first yard sale of the year, raising $1,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. An additional $125 was raised and donated to Red Door Family Shelter, an organization which provides services for families and individuals who need safe and supportive emergency shelter.
UFCW Canada Local 1006A delegates turned “Passion into Action” as they joined more than 300 activists and leaders from across North America for the 12th Biennial UFCW Women’s Network Convention.
At a 31.5% pay gap, a woman will have to work 3 1/2 months into the new year to earn what men do by December 31 of the previous year. Put another way, it will take Ontarian women 15 1/2 months to earn what Ontarian men do in 12. Join us on the north side of College & University to help us raise awareness on this important issue. With union flags waving high, Local 1000A members, activists and staff marched through the streets of downtown Toronto on March 5, 2016 as part of a series of events leading up to International Women’s Day.
They are among the millions of women and men around the world who will be celebrating International Women’s Day, which falls officially on March 8, 2016.
The weekend event started with a rally at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, after which the participants marched down Bloor and Yonge Streets to Ryerson University.
