Local 1000A members working at No Frills have voted to join the National Defence Fund (NDF). Polls were held across Ontario from May 22 – June 10, 2015
“By voting to join the NDF, members have sent a strong and clear message to their employer,” said Pearl Sawyer, Local 1000A President. “They are preparing for negotiations in 2016, in the event of a labour dispute.”
The No Frills contract expires June 30, 2016 – and your union is preparing for negotiations. Your union reps and stewards have been speaking with members in stores across Ontario on why it so important that you engage with the bargainnig process.
We are asking our members to consider joining UFCW Canada’s National Defence Fund (NDF). The NDF is essentially a national strike fund that provides picket pay over and above what you would also receive from the International and Canadian Council when on strike or lock-out. Individual bargaining units vote to join and benefit from the NDF. The fund provides additional support when you and your co-workers need it most.
Voting times and locations have been scheduled throughout the province for all No Frills & Guildwood Valu-mart members to have their say on joining the NDF. Poll time and locations are listed in the doucment linked below – we look forward to seeing you there!
Your union is aware that the Trustees of the No Frills/UFCW Canada Local 1000A Benefit Trust Fund, which covers eligible part-time No Frills employees, have very recently made a decision to amend the terms of coverage.
Your Union has filed a grievance relating to the funding of the plan and recommends that members save the receipts (or copies as the case may be) for expenses that are incurred which prior to the plan amendment would have been an eligible expense, pending a resolve to this issue.
Your shift is done but there is still work to be finished. Should you stay or should you go?
Before you make a decision, know that working off the clock is costing you money. A half-hour before your shift, and 15 minutes after your shift ends might not seem like such a big deal but when you add that extra time up, day after day, week after week, it could add up to some considerable cash.
