Local 1006A members working for Plaza Premium Lounge at Pearson Airport ratified a union contract following a difficult set of negotiations with their employer.

“It took almost a year for this process, and it wasn’t easy with management,” said Janicarr Alfonso, a member of the negotiating committee who works as a Guest Services Officer and has been with the company for 15 years.

Despite difficult negotiations that took place over months, members prevailed, making strong gains in their new contract.

“The members are really happy with the outcome,” said Alfonso. “All members will receive a wage increase, and they will finally get their retro-payments.”

The term of the contract is from November 1, 2025 to October 31, 2028 and covers approximately 250 members who work in lounges in both terminals at the airport.

“We are very proud of our members for persevering and prevailing through challenging negotiations,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Our union was with them every step of the way to ensure they got the fair union contract they deserved.”

Members of the negotiations committee included members Maria Advincula, Janicarr Alfonso, Mercidita Paradela, Lilibeth Rey, Executive Assistant to the President Frank Ragni, and Union Representatives Joe Blythe and Glacier Effs-Samuel.

“I’m very happy with the strength of our committee – it wasn’t easy, but we were able to reach a good deal,” Alfonso added.

Highlights Include:

  • 11.5% increase over 3 years
  • Additional vacation time
  • Increase to the shoe allowance and uniform entitlement
  • Improvements to scheudling and hours of work
