UFCW 1006A members at the Maple Leaf Foods canning plant in Mississauga ratified a new union contract with strong gains.
The term of the contract is June 14, 2026 to June 13, 2030 and covers 56 members.
“It was one of the best deals that we have got — it took a great effort on the part of the union,” said Upender Brar, a member of the negotiating committee. “We got increases to our wages, pension, and benefits. We are grateful to the union for getting us such a good contract.”
The negotiating committee included members, Upender Brar, Tariq Choudhry, Kalpesh Jadav, and Union Representatives, Joe Blythe and Greg Sibley.
The committee faced a difficult set of negotiations as the employer sought major concessions.
“Our members demonstrated tremendous solidarity and strength in achieving a fair union contract with all gains and no concessions,” said President Wayne Hanley. “The negotiating committee did an outstanding job in advocating for the membership by negotiating strong improvements.”
