Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

UFCW 1006A members at MEC (Mountain Equipment Company) in Toronto have ratified their first union contract.

The term of the contract is from February 1, 2025 to January 31, 2028 and covers 66 members.

“I’m proud to congratulate our members at MEC for achieving a strong first contract,” said President Wayne Hanley. “The support of our members was vital in helping our exceptional negotiating committee achieve gains at the bargaining table.”

In October 2023, workers at MEC voted to join Local 1006A. Their campaign drew a lot of community support, including from Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow who attended a rally outside the store.

The negotiating committee consisted of members, Shuaib Alam, Iman Bhanji, Sasha Grainger, Jared Moore and Union Representatives, Jonathan Lobo and Daiana Dumitru.
