Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

Three members of Amica Bayview Negotiations Committee pose for a picture at the workplace.

UFCW 1006A members at Amica Bayview Village, a retirement residence, achieved a strong and fair union contract.

“I was happy with the contract – it was great for the membership,” said Connie Caballero, a member of the negotiating committee and union steward. “I thought the wage increases were needed and were great.”

The term of the contract is from October 15, 2023 to October 14, 2026 and covers 37 members.

Members had previously worked for Aramark – a third-party provider. They are now working directly for Amica, and the terms of their previous union contract with Aramark have been carried over and improved through these recent negotiations.

“We are proud to congratulate our members at Amica on their new contract and commend the negotiating committee for their hard work,” said President Wayne Hanley. “UFCW 1006A is proud to be Ontario’s best union for all workers seeking fairness at work.”

The negotiating committee included members, Connie Caballero and John Caja, and Union Representatives, Geoffrey Gosselin and Michael Hurley.

Highlights

  • Significant wage increases over the contract term (ranging from approximately 11% to 35%, depending on job classification).
  • Members who are working part-time will be paid the same as those working full-time.
  • Members will now benefit from a comprehensive benefit plan.
  • Shoe allowance has nearly doubled.
  • Improved language to ensure union representatives now have better access to members at the workplace.
