UFCW Canada Local 1006A members at Courtyard by Marriott Markham have voted to approve their first contract.
The negotiating committee was led by Union Rep Joe Blythe with support from Union Rep Daiana Dumitru and member, Catherine Hector.
The contract runs from February 6, 2019 to February 5, 2022 and covers 30 workers.
“Overall, I was pleased with the process,” said Hector. “The union really fought for us at the bargaining table. The union worked hard for us on the contract.”
“I’m proud to congratulate workers at Courtyard by Marriott Markham on this strong first contract,” said President Wayne Hanley. “We look forward to working with our members to protect their rights and livelihoods now and into the future.”
Highlights of the agreement:
- Wage increases
- Available hours by seniority
- Improved language for Stat holiday to include Civic Holiday and Birthday
- Safety shoes allowance and steel toe shoes allowance for maintenance
