UFCW Canada Local 1006A believes that retail workers deserve holidays too.
In November 2017, without public consultation, York Region Council passed legislation that allows retail stores to be open on the eight statutory holidays. (Christmas day is the only exception).
With support from the Toronto/York Labour Council and other local unions, we continue to fight this decision.
The discussion to allow retail stores to open on statutory holidays is now beginning in the Region of Peel.
Make your voice heard that retail workers deserve their statutory holidays. If you live in Brampton, Mississauga or Caledon, please take the time to complete the survey developed by Peel region.
Consider contacting your Peel Region Councilors directly to let them know how you feel.
