The spirit of giving runs deep for Ottawa Division stewards who opened their hearts and wallets to collect hundreds of toys for children in city shelters.
“The holiday season is a time of celebration for many families, but for so many children and their parents who are in shelters, it is a difficult and heartbreaking time,” said Caroline Brisebois, a member of UFCW Canada Local 1000A's Executive Board. “This toy drive is our way of bringing some holiday cheer to these children, who have already been through so much and to let them know they are not alone.”
The toy drive is a long-running tradition of your union's Loblaws/Real Canadian Superstore/Great Food- Ottawa Division. The local union's Women's Issues Network (WIN)- Region 1 was also involved in collecting the toys.The toys will be handed out to children from local shelters at an upcoming annual Christmas party, organized by Sonny’s Bar and Grill.
The initiative is part of ‘In the Spirit of Christmas’ charity which helps Ottawa-area families in need at the shelters.
