Join your union for Injured Workers’ Day on June 1, 2015 as we rally at Queen’s Park to stand up for the injured workers of Ontario.
The rally is about stopping cuts to workers' compensation, ending the austerity agenda and fighting for justice for injured workers. The event kicks off at 11 a.m.
“Injured workers are among the most vulnerable groups in our society, and instead of protecting and helping them, our current compensation system, weakened by cutbacks and policy and practice changes, is failing them,” said Pearl Sawyer, Local 1000A President.
An estimated 200,000 people are injured at work in Ontario every year.
Our workers’ compensation system is in a state of crisis. Just like we are seeing with social programs and public services across the map, a regime of extreme austerity reigns at the WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board), and this has meant a full-fledged assault on people who have been injured or made ill at work. These changes have resulted in immense poverty for injured workers. We say enough is enough. We refuse to accept any more cost-cutting on the backs of injured workers, and we are taking to the streets to make our voices heard.
