Marisol's entry: My union, UFCW Canada Local 1000A, has made a difference in my life by giving me a chance to get involved as a union youth and advocate within the community. On orientation day, I found out that my workplace had a union which I was never familiar with. Therefore, I wanted to find out more. When I told my father about my interest in getting involved with the union, he encouraged me. I took the initiation to contact my local union, 1000A and till this day...I'm thankful for it. My union store steward gave me the contact number to the union youth group and I received so much information on my rights as a worker. I felt so much more secure that my workplace can not take advantage. I have gone to union meetings, participated in the pride parade, received training from the Youth Internship Program, advocated for my co-workers, connected with incredible people, volunteered in the union booths and so much more. I just want to say thank you to my union because I wouldn't be the person I am today without them.
