Local 1000A and UFCW Canada Local 206 merged on May 1, 2016 to form UFCW Canada Local 1006A.

UFCW Canada Local 1000A's bargaining committee achieved several gains, including wage increases, lump sums, and industry-leading travel time compensation, for members at Chubb Security.

The agreement is effective from the date of ratification, November 8, 2014, to November 1, 2018 and covers roughly 14 employees.

Bargaining was led by Don Taylor, Regional Director (Central Ontario) with support from Local 1000A Staff Representatives Ric Pereira and Dustin Magee.

"With the incredible support of our bargaining committee and membership, we were able to achieve a fair first agreement with strong gains which we will be able to build upon for the future," said Taylor.

The deal includes a $2,000 lump sum, effective at ratification, for each bargaining unit member with six or more months of service.

This lump sum is in addition to a two per cent increase every subsequent year of the collective agreement.

In addition, Local 1000A negotiators achieved industry-leading travel time compensation. If workers, prior to their shift, take more than a hour to get to their worksite, they will be compensated for that extra travel time. If workers, at the end of their shift, take more than a hour to get from their worksite to their home, they will be compensated for that extra time.

"Prior to this agreement, workers were not being paid for this extra time and that can add up to a significant amount of money," said Taylor. "We are pleased to have been able to negotiate this industry-leading term in our collective agreement."

Members of the bargaining committee included Steve Stasiuk and Dave Gibson. Chubb Security is based in Stoney Creek but covers the regional municipalities of Halton, Hamilton-Wentworth, Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk and Niagara.
