UFCW Canada Local 1000A is once again the number one choice for LensCrafters associates seeking fairness in their workplace as a new group, this time from Pickering Town Centre, voted in favour of union representation.
“On behalf of everyone at Local 1000A, I want to congratulate LensCrafters workers at Pickering Town Centre for their courage, unity and determination in standing up to fight for a fairer future,” said Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer. “When workers come together, they can make change happen.”
The vote took place on Friday, September 12, 2014.
Local 1000A now represents associates at six LensCrafters locations throughout Southern Ontario. Workers at Fairview Mall, Markville Mall, Yorkdale Mall and Upper Canada Mall ratified their collective agreements in early July. LensCrafters associates at Scarborough Town Centre voted to join in mid-July.
“Our members showed tremendous solidarity in standing up for fairness, dignity and respect at work,” said Jonathan Lobo, Coordinator for Organizing with Local 1000A.
