On behalf of UFCW Canada Local 1000A, I am inviting you, your family and friends to join your union on Labour Day in standing up for fairness for all workers.
First observed in 1872 with the Toronto printers’ strike, Labour Day is now marked in communities across Canada.
Labour Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate and reaffirm our commitment to fighting for fairness, social justice and equality for all. It is also a time to reflect on the labour movement’s many achievements, which include leading the way in advocating for universal health care, vacations, sick days, maternity leave, 8-hour workdays, pensions, health and safety standards at workplaces and much more.
Today as in the past, unions continue to be at the forefront of fighting for a fairer and more just society, whether it be advocating for progressive childcare policies for families, lower tuition rates for students, or helping workers win rights in the workplace.
In Toronto, UFCW Canada Local 1000A members, activists, staff and officers will be participating in the annual Labour Day parade on September 1, 2014 in downtown Toronto. Your union will be providing jackets to members who register in advance with their sizes (deadline is August 23). In addition to passes to the CNE, your union will be giving hats to family members who participate in the parade. Please register by sending us your jacket size and how many family members will be accompanying you by emailing your union at This email address is being protected from spambots.
