LensCrafters associates at Scarborough Town Centre have voted for the benefit of union representation by overwhelmingly choosing to become members of UFCW Canada Local 1000A.
The vote took place on July 18, 2014 and makes the Scarborough Town Centre location the fifth LensCrafters store to be represented by the local union.
"This vote is a victory for LensCrafters associates at Scarborough Town Centre, who showed strength and determination in standing up for fairness in their workplace," said Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer. "On behalf of everyone at Local 1000A, I am pleased to congratulate and welcome our newest members."
The vote at Scarborough Town Centre came on the heels of workers at Fairview Mall, Markville Mall, Yorkdale Mall and Upper Canada Mall voting this month in separate votes to accept their first contract. UFCW Canada Local 1000A’s bargaining team, which included LensCrafters associates, had fought hard to achieve a fair contract with improvements to wages and working conditions.
“Union representation is the best way to achieve fairness in the workplace,” said Organizing Coordinator Jonathan Lobo. “This victory is a result of LensCrafters associates at Scarborough Town Centre coming together, supporting each other and working towards a better and brighter future. ”
