UFCW Canada Local 1000A’s Executive Board has filled the vacancy of Recorder with Glacier Effs-Samuel effective December 12, 2013 in accordance with the UFCW Canada constitution and the local union by-laws. She will serve for the balance of the term ending December 31, 2016.
“Sister Glacier is a tremendous activist with a strong track record of standing up for workers’ rights,” said Pearl Sawyer, Local 1000A President. “With her dedication, integrity, experience and knowledge, I have every confidence that she will be outstanding in representing and serving our members as Recorder.”
Glacier, a bookkeeper at Oakville’s Loblaws Superstore, will be filling the position on the Local's Executive Board as a rank-and-file member Recorder.
Glacier’s history with Local 1000A dates back to 1994 when she began working as a cashier for a Loblaws store in Mississauga. Driven by a natural drive to help people, Glacier became a steward in the years that followed. Today, she continues to serve as a steward at Oakville's Loblaws Superstore, a member of Local 1000A's Women’s Issues Network and an instructor for the local union. She has also served in a variety of roles on the Loblaws/RCSS/GFS – Toronto Divison, including Secretary-Treasurer. Most recently, she was elected President of that division.
Local 1000A's Executive Board is elected by the membership and responsible for overseeing the operations of the local union.
