lenscraftersSeeking fairness and respect at their workplace, LensCrafters workers in Newmarket voted Friday, February 22, 2013 to join UFCW Canada Local 1000A.

"On behalf of Local 1000A, I am proud to congratulate the workers at the LensCrafters location in Newmarket for coming together and taking the initiative to make their store a better place to work," said President Pearl Sawyer. 

"Their victory is a testament to their courage, determination and the power of collective action," Sawyer said. The Newmarket store at Upper Canada Mall is the fifth LensCrafters location to win union representation in the province. Local1000A represents four other LensCrafters stores at Eaton's Centre, Yorkdale Mall, Markville Mall and Burlington's Mapleview Centre.

 “The workers wanted to be treated with fairness, respect and dignity in their workplace and they felt joining a union was the best way to achieve their goals,” said Jonathan Lobo, a UFCW Canada Local 1000A's organizing coordinator who helps workers win rights in their workplace.
