Local 1000A is proud to congratulate Thomas Mulcair, on his victory on March 24 at the NDP Leadership Convention.
The Outremont MP was chosen by more than 57 per cent of voting delegates on the fourth and final ballot to become the next Leader of the Opposition.
“It is with great honour but also with humility that I accept this position”, said Mulcair in a statement. “The challenges facing me and my caucus are significant, but we have a tremendous team of dedicated and hard-working MPs. I know that by working together we can continue to achieve great results for Canadian families.”
UFCW Canada, including Local 1000A, endorsed Mulcair for the leadership of the NDP, calling him the best candidate to build upon the NDP’s historic success in the last federal election. Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer, Secretary-Treasurer Tony Soares, Executive Vice-President Kevin Benn and Recorder Dan Gilbert, attended the leadership convention along with members of the local union executive board, staff and activists.
