Members at Maple Grove Ratify New Contract
Increased wages, job guarantees and improved vacation entitlements were among the key gains achieved by workers at National Grocers Maple Grove Distribution Centre in their newly ratified collective agreement. Owned by Loblaw Companies, the warehouse is the largest in the National Grocers chain.
Brian Reid, Director of the Warehouse & Transport sector and YIG & Valu-mart sector for Local 1000A, said he was very pleased with the contract.
“I am glad we were able to avoid the second-tier wage package that the company pushed very hard for,” he said. “Our bargaining committee worked hard together and stood behind the members to deliver a deal that they are very pleased with.”
The agreement covers 675 full-time members and 180 part-time members and runs from August 1, 2010 to Jan 28, 2017. Members voted 84 per cent in favour of ratification on December 6, 2010.
