UFCW 1006A members at Quality Inn and Suites Bay Front in Sault Ste. Marie have ratified a new union contract.
The term of the contract is from November 7, 2024, to November 6, 2027 and covers 30 members.
“We fought really hard and overall, everyone was quite happy with the new contract,” said Kerrie Wortman, member of the negotiating committee. “The raises were incredible and we felt a sense of satisfaction.”
The negotiating committee included members, Nicole Minnick, Kerrie Wortman and Union Representatives, Joe Blythe and Ric Pereira.
“The advantages of union representation in the hotel industry are immense,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Unionized hotel workers have a voice and rights in the workplace and the ability to collectively improve their wages, benefits and working conditions. As Ontario’s best union for hotel workers, UFCW 1006A has the strongest track record for representing hotel workers. I am proud to congratulate our members at this hotel on achieving a strong first contract.”
