Unionized cannabis workers continue to make gains, with UFCW 1006A members at Superette in Ottawa becoming the latest group to recently achieve a new union contract.
The term of the contract is from March 29, 2024 to March 28, 2027 and covers six workers at the store.
Workers had joined the union in 2020 and ratified their first contract the following year.
"There were definintely some improvements to the current agreement," said Liam Thompson, a member of the negotiating committee. He said the new contract seems to have gone over positively.
The negotiating committee includes member, Liam Thompson, Regional Director Gord Albert and Union Representative, John Conway.
“UFCW 1006A is proud to be Ontario’s best union for cannabis workers seeking fairness at work,” said President Wayne Hanley. “We are proud of our strong track record in helping cannabis workers win improvements and empowering them to change their workplace for the better. I’m pleased to congratulate our members at Superette in Ottawa for achieving a fair union contract.”
UFCW 1006A is the union for cannabis workers, representing cannabis retail stores and marijuana growing facilities in Canada and the US.
