UFCW 1006A members at Fresh City Farms (formerly Mama Earth Organics Inc) continue to improve their workplace, as they recently ratified a strong union contract with gains.
"Our new contract shows what is possible when workers are encouraged to take the lead and share their creative ideas of what a safer, better workplace could look like,” said Matt Davis, a member of the negotiating committee.
"After a long struggle with the company, we ended up with a strong contract that really pushes the boundaries of what anyone thought was possible to win in these tough economic times."
The term of the contract is from October 29, 2023 to October 28, 2026 and covers 110 workers.
“UFCW 1006A is proud to congratulate our members at Fresh City Farms on achieving a fair union contract,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Thank you to our committee members for their participation and dedication throughout this process. We look forward to working with our members at Fresh City Farms to protect and improve their rights and livelihoods now and into the future.”
The negotiating committee included members, Lucas Brundle, Matt Davis, Karen Munk and Stephanie Taylor and Union Representative, Jonathan Lobo.
Fresh City Farms is located in East York and prepares and delivers fresh and organic food baskets.
Members had joined UFCW 1006A in 2020 and this is their second union contract.
