Ottawa activists and staff showed their holiday spirit, as they collected hundreds of toys for children at Ottawa-area shelters.
"What an incredible initiative that shows the best of our union spirit,” said President Wayne Hanley. “The holidays are a difficult time for many families. This toy drive is about lifting the spirits of the children and families who are in shelters and spreading some holiday cheer. I want to thank our activists and staff in Ottawa for making this initiative such a great success.”
"What inspires me to do this every year is that all my life I have known kids who have nothing at Christmas—these kids do not even have a home,” said Caroline Brisebois, a Vice-President on 1006A’s Executive Board. “It is truly heartbreaking and we wanted to do what we can to give back and make a difference any way we can.”
Organized by the Ottawa Division, the Ottawa Toy Drive is now in its nineth year.
The initiative is part of ‘In the Spirit of Christmas’ charity which helps Ottawa-area families in need at the shelters. Toys are also sent back with workers to children at the shelters, who were not at the party.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a huge success.
